kuih batik

i have never done this "kuih batik" thing before. i have never heard of it before i come here. but this thing has become like so popular since last hari raya when they make open house.

since then kuih batik becomes a must in any celebration : birthday, cny etc or just making it for fun. the recipe is spread verbally from one to another. and now, i think almost everyone in the hostel knows how to make it.

here's the recipe.

ingredients :

1 piece of butter (300g)

1 cup of milo powder ( or nesquick)

1 tin of condensed milk.

300g of plain biscuit (eg Jacob's)

Methodolology:

1) crush the biscuits into small pieces

2) melt the butter on the pan

3) put the milo powder and the whole tin of condensed milk

4) stir well

5) put the crushed biscuits into the pot of hot chocolate

6) stir again

7) pour everything into a container

8) press the surface with a flat thing...so that it's flat too...

9) put in the fridge for cooling untill it becomes  solid

the thing you are making is officially called a kuih batik now...( i dunno why....it doesn't resemble kain batik in anyway to me.....)

click here to see the pictures....

as you can see the whole ingredient and process  is nothing but carbo and FAT....

it's not suitable for me  as i am already FAT!

i am extremely busy. i have exam coming. i do not like cakes. i hate desserts.

so why am i doing this??

i just wanna CRUSH the biscuits....

(anyone who reads this post within 24 hours can come claim one "kuih batik" from me, while stock last. of course, you must stay in nizhny novgorod, russia, hostel 3...(or 1) )

dinner at chinese restaurant....

today i have holiday as the russians are celebrating men's day. it's a new celebration in russia started last year. russian teacher said that it's a day when women give things to men. it has another name---army day. to remember those who contribute to the country. but my teacher said the main purpose is to remind the men about the women's day on the 8th of march. if the women give a present to men on this day, the men would remember that women's day is near.....how cunning...

having  holidays on thurs, fri, sat....and sunday is a working day. russia very kedekut holiday one...yerr......extra one day also cannot give...cis...so i have to work 6days berturut-turut next week...die..

tody basically did nothing.except watching cantonese series. and cooked. dunno why i felt like cooking. so cooked nyonya fish, tangkui chicken, and fried vege. hehehe...plan to cook for 2 meals one....but candice ajak to go chinese restaurant and eat.....so ma put those food in the fridge lo...for tomorrow

this is the first time i go chinese restaurant since i came here. alomst 2 year edi. the food was nice. the way the waiter greet us with chinese very funny...but felt warm la. she was friendly and nice la... she tot we don know russian, so asked the cook from china to speak wif us. i won't forget the time when she pronounce 'cook' as 'çock'....almost tergelak....but see like everyone else din say anything....maybe i was the only one who noticed...

we ordered fu chuk salad, hong sao fish, tepanyaki(did i spell it correctly??)--pork, si chuan rou si, and fried rice....everything was ok...except the fried rice. and worse, it came last. so we ate the previous meal without rice....maybe it's russian custome to serve food in that order....but that was chinese restaurant....they should serve acc to chinese custome...cis...

on our way back....we saw a group of russian holding flags and shouting on our way to the bus stop..and they were walking toward us...so we took alternative path...damn scary... from our friend's experience, confonting them will have us beaten up by those ppl. we started to walk faster and faster.....and on instict all 5 of us started running......and when we think it was safe around the crowd...everyone started laughing.....

then on the bus, a terrible incident happened. a drunken guy beat a lady for no good reason all of a sudden...damn shitty man the guy...beat lady.....kesian the lady tak pasal pasal kena beaten....she cried..asking why he beat her...very pity her....after that the useless drunken men fell asleep....

today is a pleasant day. russians should have these holidays often. so tht i have time to relax before drowning myself into mountains of books again...

making curry puff....

today is very oily day for me....juz after coming back from class around 5pm...someone in my group suggested to make curry puff......she bought the materials edi...ie. potatoes, chicken, mushrooms and others...but nobody to help her to make....so we decided to call the whole group to make curry puff....like a group project...

first..because the malays are cooking for their berbuka puasa....i help to cut the potatoes first..into cubes...then to wash the mushrooms..and cut onion and garlic....\

then it's my turn to cook my dinner....those that had buka puasa came to elp pulak....they but the chicken and mushrooms and fried them with potatoes.... with some spices .....it taste so nice....like the pizza's topping...

at night...after they sembahyang....the whole group gathered in the kitchen to make the curry puff....rahimah and li jye was making the skin for the puff....me and adilah put in the filling....while junice and ilya frying it....farid came later but was of great help too...

while cooking we made plenty of jokes and enjoyed ourselves during the process of making these curry puff....it was sth we seldom see due to the tense atmosphere in class...rushing here and there...preparing for exam.....etc... this is really a great activityto have.....we had so much fun that we din't even realise the time passed..before we knew it....it was already 1130 pm....we divided the curry puffs and gave some to friends...

we should do this more often...

big eyes yong tau hu

loacted near my house, this is a one of the few yong tau hu shop in my area...

the shop opened about 2-3 years ago....

speciality: kuay tiao, noodle, bee hoon, lou shu fan with MINCE MEAT

                self-made fishball, self-fried tau ki...

                sutffed chicken wing...

                pork ribs noodles...(not that nice...and it's expensive..not worth it)

                mince meat stuffed inside fishball

                has great sambal

there's a snake on display in the shop

choices  :stuffed chilli, fishball, meatball, brinjal, tauki, lady finger, dumpling, bird's egg...

working hour: 8-230pm...last time used to open at night...but no customers...so now no more..

weakness:

poor service..can't handle many customers at one time...i waited for an hour before my food came once when the place was full...

tend to mix up orders...dunno which food for which customers...

sometimes rude to customers (the aunty)

the noodles are getting lesser and lesser....mince meat is like 1/4 compared to 1 year ago...

the noodles taste worse now that the initial "noodle maker" is replaces by a new one...

the food and drinks are expensive

above all that, this is a good place for food if you come to bukit beruang, melaka

satay kajang

yay...since tai soon so long don wanna bring me go eat satay kajang....my aunt brought me to kajang to eat satay kajang...

the famous satay kajang was said to be double the size of the normal satay... i have been wanting to eat this since tai soon talked about it last year...

after eating today....had to agree it was SLIGHTLY bigger....but other than that it's nothing impressive...

the most important thing about satay is the kuah...the satay i ate juz now..the kuah is normal, abit too sweet..

one useful tip to get rid of the rasa hamis and tengik in your mouth is to eat onion together with satay...unless of course you are anti-onion

ate 13 satays juz now........damn full..........

i love malaysian food!

SATAY CELUP

finally after one month back in melaka, i got to eat satay celup, one of melaka's famous food...

i just got to know recently that not places in malaysia have satay celup...what pity...and melaka seemed to be famous for this food...

today went to CAPITOL SATAY to eat satay celup....a place where people from all over malaysia come here to eat satay celup... miss it so much..

i tried almost everything there:fishball, meatball, crabmeat stick, prawns, si ham, sotong, kangkung, tao ki, saussages....

actually come to think of it...if we celup everything inside the kuah kacang...everything will taste the same.....so practically when we eat satay celup we are juz tasting the kuah kacang oni....hehe..

but i love it....since young...and i'll definitely miss it when i go back to nizhny.....
